Objective: | Our client is a fast and flexible producer of LED lighting for outdoor, industry and office applications and wishes to test their mettle against well-established brands in the market as well as explore potential distribution opportunities. The first phase of the project consisted in identifying and profiling potential distribution/cooperation partners. The list of targets was approved in its entirety. The second phase proceeded quickly with outreach and reporting. The timing of the project was specific as it started during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. |
Results: | EasyLink in-market consultants identified and contacted 33 companies in the Czech Republic and 23 in Slovakia. While the contacted companies were open to receiving information on the client’s behalf, most were wary of starting new partnerships due to the, at the time, uncertain situation caused by Covid-19 restrictions. Several companies reported severe slump in demand and halting of several projects. One of the Slovak companies even predicted that the market would be at 40% of its usual values over the following months. The contacting campaign resulted in one company open to discussing cooperation right away and 6 additional companies were open to talks at a later stage, once the effects of the pandemic become clearer. In addition to the Covid-induced uncertainties, the client also learned of the following obstacles: 1) coming late to the market (the forming of the market ended 5 years ago, now strong partnerships and sales channels are already developed, backed by extreme lobby from the key LED suppliers) and 2) saturated market (many international brands as well as strong local companies present). |

Results: | In step one, Easylink consultant in Russia delivered a market assessment, which mapped activities of the leading competitors in Russia (separately for two lines of products: environmentally controlled chambers and glove boxes and ESD instrumentation), outlined certifications needed for Russia, and identified relevant trade shows. Certification is obligatory for all equipment and instrumentation imported to Russia; unfortunately, it is not always straightforward, as different codes can be attributed to equipment and instrumentation depending on their application, constituent parts and materials used for their manufacturing. In fact, products of our client’s competitors are imported to Russia under various codes. The most relevant fairs include the Moscow International Innovative Forum, International Exhibition of Testing and Measuring Equipment, and NDT RUSSIA. Since environmental chambers are generally distributed by laboratory and analytical equipment suppliers and ESD instrumentation by measuring and testing equipment suppliers, we recommended establishing one official distributor for each group of products. In step two, we outlined everything that would be involved in a partner search project, emphasizing the need for in-market travel to meet interested and qualified prospective partners rather than initiating communication with them via email or phone. In a follow-up communication with the client we explained that the company’s initiative to develop a distribution structure in four or even five markets at the same time would be overwhelming. However, having the market knowledge we were able to explain that the Russian market would be quite a challenge given the client’s objectives (e.g. focus on a specific type of companies), and thus we recommended Poland as the go-to market. Our task was to identify a small company (less than 5 people) to represent their product in heavy industrial plants. The company should be staffed by mechanical engineers that regularly visit/call industrial plants, especially steel, metal refining plants and chlorine plants. They must know how to sell technical electrical equipment into these industrial plants and be familiar with the long sales cycles that this involves. |

Objective: | EasyLink was asked to carry a distributor search and arrange targeted one-to-one meetings for an Irish designer and manufacturer of microprocessor development, source level debug, software quality assurance and smart card systems seeking to expand on the Czech market. |
Results: | Our initial list of prospects for direct contact included close to 30 companies involved in the business of embedded systems. Their managers were approached over the phone to introduce the client and its systems and assess whether they match the ideal distributor profile. In September 2001, the client travelled to the market to meet the top 6 candidates with confirmed interest in partnership. |

Objective: | Our Irish client, a producer of connectors, wished to reduce costs by outsourcing production of moulds for its connectors to a Czech high precision tool shop capable of building 15 moulds annually and equipped with CNC milling machines, expert form grinders, spark eroders and wire eroders. |
Results: | Based on our internal database of Czech industrial manufacturers, including all specialized tool shops, we contacted approximately 30 injection mould manufacturers and provided them with technical specifications and drawings. Altogether we identified six companies capable to manufacture the required items and interested in direct contact with the client. |

Objective: | Our U.K. client designs and manufactures electro-optical systems, modules and components for the defence industry; it is one of the world's leading suppliers of this equipment. EasyLink was asked to explore the route to market for defence components as well as distribution options for electro-optical parts for industrial end users. |
Results: | EasyLink conducted market research to determine general sales potential of electro-optical systems in the Czech Republic. Based on the client’s request the research was anonymous and no specific information was disclosed to any of the companies contacted. EasyLink provided the client with detailed information on procurement procedures in the defence sector. EasyLink recommended the client to proceed further with contacts we established with local trading companies as they could constitute partners for smaller contracts and business outside of the government as well as for major government procurement. EasyLink also identified and recommended contacting several importers of medical instrumentation for ophthalmologic medicine. |

Objective: | Our task was to confirm market opportunities exist and establish the correct route to market for a U.K. manufacturer of metallised film capacitors for industrial and professional applications, e.g. audio grade capacitors. The client was new to the CEE region; elsewhere their usual approach is direct to OEMs as it is essential to have direct contact in order to design the product correctly for production. EasyLink was asked to approach buyers/design engineers in the electronics industry, particularly audio electronics. |
Results: | EasyLink, based on interviews with close to ten distributors of electronic components and producers of electronics, concurred that only limited opportunities exist for the client on the Czech market as there were no local producers of hi-fi equipment and just one producer of loudspeakers plus a traditional local producer of capacitors offering price competitive products (TESLA - former monopoly on production of electronics/electronic components). |

However, the company is new to the Central and Eastern European market and would like to explore the potential here, starting with the Czech Republic. Our task was to establish the correct route to market for their products; the client was seeking new customers or joint ventures related to the manufacture, service and use of materials handling equipment, battery powered vehicles, special purpose vehicles and power backup devices for the telecommunications industry. |
Results: | EasyLink identified 7 prospective partners in the Czech Republic, of which some were interested in distributing products while others in a joint venture project or sourcing contactors and solenoids directly (including the largest manufacturer of handling equipment in the country). |

Objective: | EasyLink was commissioned to identify and approach prospective direct customers and evaluate their interest in sourcing from the client. |
Results: | EasyLink identified four companies with confirmed interest in receiving detailed information from a new potential supplier. All the prospective customers had strong ties to both the defence and civil sectors. Our research showed that the devices where PCBs are used are not manufactured locally but have to be imported (e.g. from Germany and Sweden). The prospective customers confirmed that although they would most probably not buy big volumes at first, they constituted promising partners for the future. |
